2025 Advocacy Fly-In
This year, the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) is facilitating an opportunity for our members to meet with their Representatives, Senators, and their staff to advocate for tax-exempt municipal bonds. Maintaining a dialogue with your members of Congress is more important than ever. Our advocacy fly-in will be held in conjunction with and immediately preceding The Workshop 2025.
Note
Our advocacy fly-in will occur on Tuesday, September 9, and the morning of Wednesday, September 10. The remainder of programming related to The Workshop 2025 will begin the afternoon of Wednesday, September 10. While participating in the advocacy fly-in is a free member benefit, attendees of the conference wishing to participate in the fly-in should review their hotel lodging and travel plans accordingly.
How Will NABL’s Advocacy Fly-In Work?
This opportunity is exclusively available to NABL members. Individuals interested in participating in the advocacy fly-in must register for the fly-in by August 12. NABL will divide registrants into small advocacy groups led by an “advocacy leader,” who is a NABL member with experience in advocacy on Capitol Hill. Participants will receive instructions and contact information for setting up their own meetings with congressional offices throughout the second half of August. NABL will also host optional virtual office hours to provide additional assistance to participants, and a mandatory virtual advocacy training session on September 4 at 4:00 PM ET to discuss best practices for your meetings on Capitol Hill. After the advocacy fly-in, participants will be asked to report back on and share any outcomes from their meetings with NABL. See below for more information on the timeline of events. If you have any questions, please contact NABL’s Chief Policy Officer, Brian Egan.

What is an Advocacy Fly-In?
Many associations host coordinated days in which their members “fly-in” to Washington, DC to advocate for their priorities. These advocacy fly-ins allow members of Congress and their staff to hear directly from constituents, YOU, on why priorities such as preserving tax-exempt municipal bonds matter to their districts.
Why is Advocacy Important to Municipal Finance?
Fly-ins serve a number of purposes, but above all else, our advocacy will elevate the importance of tax-exempt municipal finance for members of Congress and their staff. In-person meetings on Capitol Hill establish lines of communication between congressional offices and their constituents. Participants will meet their members of Congress and staff, build connections with their federal representatives, increase brand awareness for NABL and our priorities, and build and maintain support for critical community financing tools such as tax-exempt bonds.

Interested in Serving as an Advocacy Leader?
Each group assignment for the advocacy fly-in will be led by an “advocacy leader,” who is someone with previous advocacy experience on Capitol Hill. Ideal candidates should have prior experiences participating in advocacy days with NABL or other peer organizations and should have a basic understanding of the U.S. Capitol Complex. Advocacy leaders will have additional training from NABL staff and will ensure their respective group members are able to successfully schedule required meetings. You can indicate your interest in serving as an advocacy leader via the registration process for the advocacy fly-in.
