Tell us a little about yourself – your family, your hobbies, etc.

I have been practicing law for nearly 30 years. I’ve known that I wanted to be an attorney since the 8th grade. Back then, I wanted to be the first African-American female President of the United States. My reasons evolved to encompass other life goals, as my desire to become an attorney grew. While I may no longer want to be President, I did serve as an Alderman (City Councilman) for the City of Chicago for four terms. My husband and I have been married for 32 years and our daughter (Entertainment Public Relations industry) and son (Real Estate Private Equity industry) live, work and play in New York City. I love music. I play the drums, write short stories and read tons of mysteries and spy novels.

How has your NABL membership impacted your career?

NABL’s educational seminars and programs gave me the confidence to expand my practice into public finance. Becoming a more active member has increased my network across the country.

As Chair of NABL’s Diversity Committee, what are your goals for the upcoming year?

It is my hope that the Diversity Committee will continue to provide additional opportunities for diverse members to participate in NABL activities and committees, thereby, engaging our members even more and giving increased exposure to pressing issues, subject matter, and diverse solutions.
