Victoria G. Nilsson, New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Trenton, NJ
After completing my first transaction, I wanted to immerse myself in the industry. The experts and partners as well as NABL have been a terrific resource, and NABL has armed me with a toolbox of skills and real-time developments, allowing me to stay on top of the industry and contribute effectively to my team.
Tell us something about yourself . . .
Music has always played a significant role in my life. I started playing the piano when I was young, and it was a daily activity until the day I started law school. It has been a source of joy and relaxation, but it has also taught me the value of effort and concentration. Today, I more often assume the passive role of spectator and supporter, but music continues to serve me well as a connection point when meeting new people.
What inspired you to pursue a career in public finance?
Firstly, it is very rewarding to work on projects and programs that directly benefit New Jersey communities and citizens. Secondly, representing New Jersey in cross-functional teams of financial and legal experts is a terrific learning opportunity.

A couple of weeks ago, you attended The Essentials: Virtual 2020. What did you learn from the conference that you can implement into your work?
The Essentials was a great opportunity for me to reaffirm my understanding of the fundamentals of public finance while also helping me identify knowledge gaps. This exposure early in my career has helped establish a strong foundation and roadmap to support my continued development in public finance and as an attorney.
