Tell us a little about yourself
As a child, my parents never told me that my career options were limited due to gender or race. Since I could be anything, I decided I would be a firefighter-pilot-super hero. Why? As a firefighter, I could have a Dalmatian; as a pilot, I would get to wear cool aviator sunglasses; and if I was a superhero, I could have superpowers! I know these are interesting career choices, particularly the super hero part, but I was six. I never did get a Dalmatian. But, the pilot’s license and the superpowers? You never know.
What has been one of your favorite moments of your career so far?
Following the closing of a rent-to-own financing and a complicated construction process, I attended the grand opening and key delivery ceremony. Listening to the new owners share their stories about being the first in their family to ever own a home, how without this financing, they were certain homeownership was beyond their reach, and how homeownership would provide economic security to them and their families was quite moving. Definitely one of the best moments of my career, so far.
When and how did you first become involved in NABL?
Early in my career as a bond lawyer, my mentor told me that if I was serious about being a bond lawyer, then I needed to join NABL. I was and so I did.
What, in your opinion, is the most important service that NABL provides its members?
Access to continuing education specific to our practice and the networking opportunities.
