Tell us a little about yourself…
I’m a Texas transplant who arrived by way of Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia. I started my legal career in Atlanta and after meeting my law enforcement husband on a ride along in a leadership development program (true story!), we relocated to Texas because he landed his dream job as a federal agent. Naturally, his cocktail party stories are significantly more entertaining than mine. After a stint at Norton Rose Fulbright in Dallas, I joined Winstead PC and was elected to shareholder a year later. I specialize in representing underwriters in high-yield land secured debt. My personal passions lie in improving health and fitness in people’s everyday lives and being an advocate for rescue dogs (we have 4 at home). Outside the office, you’ll find me working with Girls on the Run DFW as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors and volunteering with The Love Pit, a local Dallas pitbull rescue. If it’s early, you’ll find me slinging weights in the CrossFit gym.
How has your participation in the NABL Connect online community helped you during this pandemic?
NABL Connect has been a wonderful way to get real time information on how other seasoned practitioners are navigating the challenges of COVID-19. As always, we have many more questions than answers, but the platform has been an essential connection point, particularly since my favorite NABL event (The Institute) was canceled this year. I look forward to getting tips on the latest topics at that conference, and NABL Connect is filling the void.
If a colleague asked you why you joined NABL, how would you respond?
I joined NABL because there are precious few organizations that cater to the niche world of bond law, and I consider NABL to be the best source of industry news and materials to support me becoming a better bond lawyer. When I was a “baby bond lawyer”, Fundamentals was instrumental in helping me connect the dots and hit the ground running with my practice.
Do you have any remote working tips to share with NABL members that have helped you recently?
My first remote working tip would be to not have dogs, children or a spouse so you can maximize productivity. But since those things are what make quarantine great outside of working hours, the best tip I have is to set aside the quiet time at the beginning and end of the day for the tasks that require the most concentration. I’m an early riser by nature, so the morning seems to be when I get the most quality work done without the various distractions of the day. I also try to follow the same routine I used to follow on “normal days” to keep things consistent.
