- Member Spotlight
Carol Lew
A partner at Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth LLP, chair of The Institute 2026, and NABL member since 1989.
The NABL Member Spotlight initiative is a volunteer-based program. All featured members participate voluntarily and are selected to highlight their contributions and achievements within our community. Participation in the spotlight does not imply endorsement by NABL. If you would like to be featured, please contact us! Now, let’s meet Carol Lew and learn more about her public finance journey:
1. What inspired you to become a NABL member and how did your career in Public Finance start?
I became involved in tax relating to public finance because of the availability of work in this area and my interest in doing legal work that benefits the public. I initially found NABL because I recognized the educational value of interacting with others in this field through conferences and comment projects.
2. You are chairing The Institute this year, what is something you are looking forward to at the conference?
We have great topics and speakers lined up, such as a forum on the impacts of recent federal government policy shifts. We are focusing on current complex issues in the industry and encouraging discussion with attendees in the forums. I look forward to learning something new and exchanging ideas regarding current issues. The convenience of attending and interacting should promote good discussions
3. What NABL resources do you think more members should take advantage of?
Our NABL conferences and subject committee meetings are very important for members to be made aware of current issues and how those issues are being addressed. I highly encourage young members to attend conferences and join committees for career development.
4. Is there a particular project or deal that stands out as especially meaningful in your career?
Looking back over my career, some of the most meaningful experiences were related to NABL volunteer activities. Serving as President and on the NABL Board was a high point. I particularly enjoyed working with our industry partners, such as the GFOA, and interactions with the regulators as the law was interpreted and shaped.
5. What is a fun fact that people might not know about you?
I love long distance standup paddle boarding and go out most weekends.
