President Obama Urges Congress to Provide Additional Aid to Municipalities

On Saturday, June 12, 2010, President Obama sent a letter to Senate and House leadership, urging them to provide more aid to cities and states to offset the impact of widespread budget cuts.  The President’s letter encouraged the congressional leadership to support and to quickly pass the American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010, or “Extenders bill,” that passed the Senate last week. President Obama also urged leadership to support Medicaid FMAP, currently in the Senate, and his proposed Teacher Firing Prevention Fund, which he stated are the most effective means of preventing layoffs and maintaining education, health, and public safety services.
